Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how 2421 collects, uses, stores, and shares information when you use our website, mobile application, pilot clothing-purchase and donation services, pickup or drop-off features, communications, and related services (collectively, the “Services”).

1. Who We Are

2421 is a circular-fashion pilot based in and around Lexington, Massachusetts. The pilot allows eligible adults to purchase 2421 products, submit clothing for donation or responsible processing, schedule available pickups or drop-offs, and receive updates about the handling or possible destination of submitted items.

2. Age Requirement

The Services are intended only for individuals who are at least 18 years old. You may not create an account, place an order, submit clothing, schedule a pickup, or otherwise use the Services if you are under 18.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that information was submitted by a person under 18, we may delete the information, cancel the related request, and close the account.

3. Information We Collect

Account and contact information — name, email address, telephone number, account login information, communication preferences, age-confirmation information, and messages or feedback you choose to provide.

Order and payment information — products ordered, order date, order status, transaction amount, shipping and billing address, refunds, and returns. Stripe processes complete payment-card numbers and security codes; we do not store them directly.

Donation, pickup, and processing information — pickup or drop-off address, requested date or time window, instructions, donation-bag and QR-code identifiers, item quantities or categories, and related collection and sorting records.

Images and impact information — photographs uploaded in connection with clothing or impact updates, along with image metadata. Google Cloud Vision may be used to detect (not identify) faces so they can be blurred.

Device, app, analytics, and technical information — IP address, device type, operating system, app version, browser type, approximate location derived from IP, push-notification tokens, and diagnostic or crash data.

Location and address information — when you enter a pickup, billing, or delivery address, Google Maps services may validate, geocode, or display the location. We do not request continuous background location access for the pilot.

4. How We Use Information

To create and manage accounts; process orders, payments, shipping, returns, and refunds; verify service eligibility; schedule and coordinate pickups or drop-offs; track submitted clothing through collection, sorting, donation, redistribution, recycling, repurposing, or responsible disposal; send order, account, pickup, donation-status, security, and service communications; send push notifications when enabled; store, process, and deliver impact images while reducing privacy risk through face blurring; provide customer support; detect errors and prevent fraud or misuse; and comply with legal obligations.

5. How We Share Information

We share information only as reasonably necessary to run the pilot, with providers including Railway (database and backend hosting), Google Maps Platform (address validation and geocoding), Firebase Cloud Messaging (push notifications), Sentry (error monitoring), Expo EAS (mobile app builds), Stripe (payments), Cloudflare R2 (image and file storage), Google Cloud Vision (automated face detection for blurring), and Resend (transactional email).

We also share information with operational partners — drivers, volunteers, couriers, sorters, recipient organizations, and recycling partners — when needed to perform a requested service, and with government authorities when required by law.

2421 does not sell personal information. 2421 also does not sell donated clothing.

6. Impact Photos and Recipient Privacy

Impact photos demonstrate the movement or use of donated clothing — they are not intended to identify or exploit recipients. Faces may be blurred or images removed if inappropriate, unsafe, or inconsistent with the pilot.

Receiving an impact photo is never guaranteed. A photo may show a shipment or grouped items rather than the exact item you submitted.

You may not copy, publish, identify, contact, harass, or attempt to locate a person shown in an impact photo.

7. Data Retention

We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to operate the pilot, complete transactions and donation workflows, resolve disputes, and comply with legal obligations. When information is no longer needed, we may delete, de-identify, or securely retain it as permitted by law.

8. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards appropriate to the pilot. No internet transmission, app, or storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.

Do not place identification documents, payment cards, medication, hazardous materials, keys, electronic devices, or other personal or prohibited property inside a donation bag.

9. Your Choices and Requests

You may update certain account information through the Services, disable push notifications through your device settings, and unsubscribe from optional marketing emails. Service and transaction emails may still be sent.

You may request access, correction, or deletion of account information by contacting [email protected]. We may need to verify your request.

10. Cookies and Similar Technologies

The website or app may use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies for login, security, preferences, analytics, and core functionality. The pilot does not currently use personal information for targeted advertising.

11. Third-Party Services

Third-party providers process information under their own terms and privacy policies. 2421 does not control every aspect of a provider's independent processing.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the pilot changes. We will revise the “Last Updated” date and may provide additional notice when a change is material.

part two

Terms of Service

These Terms govern your access to and use of the 2421 website, mobile application, pilot products, ordering features, clothing-submission program, pickups, drop-offs, impact updates, communications, and related services. By creating an account, placing an order, scheduling a pickup or drop-off, submitting clothing, or otherwise using the Services, you agree to these Terms and the Privacy Policy above.

1. Pilot Status

2421 is currently an unregistered pilot project. The Services are experimental, limited in scope, and may be changed, paused, restricted, or discontinued. References to “2421,” “we,” “us,” or “our” mean the people operating the pilot.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to agree to these Terms, and must provide accurate information and use the Services only for lawful personal purposes. You may not create an account or use the Services on behalf of a person under 18.

3. Accounts

You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for activity conducted through your account, and must promptly notify us if you believe your account has been accessed without permission. We may suspend or close an account that violates these Terms, threatens safety, or creates legal or operational risk.

4. Orders, Prices, and Payment

Product descriptions, availability, prices, taxes, fees, and shipping estimates may change before an order is accepted. Payment is processed through Stripe. An order confirmation does not guarantee acceptance — we may cancel or limit an order for reasons including inventory, suspected fraud, or technical error, and will refund any accepted paid order we cancel.

5. Shipping, Final Sales, and Refunds

Shipping dates are estimates. Unless 2421 states otherwise in writing, all product sales during the pilot are final and we do not accept returns or exchanges. If you receive an incorrect, damaged, or materially defective product, contact [email protected] promptly with your order information. Submitted or collected donated clothing cannot be returned.

6. Clothing Submission Program

By handing clothing to 2421 or an authorized collection partner, you confirm that you own the items or have permission to submit them, that they are voluntarily and permanently transferred without payment, that they contain no hidden personal property, and that you understand 2421 does not guarantee a particular recipient, destination, use, photo, timeline, or outcome.

7. Ownership and Handling of Submitted Items

Ownership of accepted items transfers to 2421 when collected or accepted at an authorized drop-off. After transfer, 2421 may inspect, sort, clean, transport, donate, redistribute, recycle, repurpose, or responsibly dispose of items, based on condition, safety, recipient needs, and available options. 2421 does not sell donated items.

8. Accepted and Prohibited Items

We may accept or reject items at our discretion. Do not submit wet, moldy, contaminated, or unsafe items; food, liquids, chemicals, medicine, sharp objects, batteries, or hazardous materials; identification documents, keys, cash, or other personal valuables; or items prohibited by law. 2421 is not responsible for personal property accidentally left inside submitted clothing.

9. Pickups and Drop-Offs

Availability depends on location, staffing, weather, and capacity. You must provide a safe, reasonably accessible collection location and accurate instructions. Do not ask a collector to enter a private residence. Time windows are estimates, and items left outside before an authorized handoff remain at your risk until actually collected.

10. Impact Updates and Photos

Impact updates may describe a batch or shipment rather than trace an exact garment to an exact recipient. A photo is never guaranteed and may be delayed, unavailable, or removed. You may not attempt to reverse face blurring, identify a person, or contact a person shown in a photo. Impact images are for personal viewing only unless we give written permission otherwise.

11. User Conduct

You may not use the Services unlawfully or deceptively; interfere with security or misuse QR codes; submit false pickup requests, stolen property, or prohibited items; harass drivers, staff, or other users; or scrape or commercially exploit the Services without permission.

12. Intellectual Property

The 2421 name, logos, designs, software, and other materials are owned by or licensed to the pilot operators. These Terms grant only a limited, revocable, non-transferable right to use the Services for their intended personal purpose.

13. Feedback and User Submissions

If you send feedback or suggestions, you allow 2421 to use them to operate and improve the pilot without compensation. Do not submit content you don't have the right to share.

14. Third-Party Services

The Services depend on third parties including Railway, Google Maps Platform, Firebase Cloud Messaging, Sentry, Expo EAS, Stripe, Cloudflare R2, Google Cloud Vision, Resend, carriers, and operational partners. 2421 is not responsible for third-party services to the extent permitted by law.

15. Service Changes and Termination

We may modify, limit, suspend, or discontinue any part of the pilot, and may suspend or terminate access for violation of these Terms, safety concerns, fraud, or operational necessity. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination — ownership transfers, intellectual property, disclaimers, limitations, and privacy provisions — will do so.

16. Disclaimers

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Services are provided “as is” and “as available.” 2421 does not guarantee uninterrupted operation, error-free software, a particular pickup time, recipient, donation outcome, or impact photo.

17. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, 2421 and the people operating the pilot will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages. Total liability arising from the Services will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid to 2421 for the order directly related to the claim, or (b) $100.

18. Indemnity

To the extent permitted by law, you agree to be responsible for reasonable losses or claims arising from your unlawful use of the Services, submission of property you weren't authorized to transfer, submission of prohibited materials, or material violation of these Terms.

19. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Any dispute that cannot be resolved informally will be brought in a court with lawful jurisdiction in Massachusetts. Before filing a claim, you and 2421 agree to make a good-faith effort to resolve the issue by contacting [email protected].

20. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms as the pilot changes. The revised Terms will state a new effective or last-updated date, and material changes may be communicated through the Services or by email.

21. General Terms

If part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in effect. A delay in enforcing a provision is not a waiver. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms without permission; 2421 may transfer the pilot and these Terms to a future registered entity or successor. These Terms, the Privacy Policy, and any additional checkout terms shown to you form the agreement governing the Services.
